This course is designed for the entry-level climber or those with less than 90 days of climbing experience. This course will set the stage for a career in safety with PPE selection and use, climbing techniques, and basic knowledge of rescue equipment and procedures. Content covers rules, regulations and standards set by OSHA, ANSI and NATE.
The first day of this course consists of 4 hours of classroom discussion and then 4 hours of practicing hands-on climbing. The second day consists of 4 hours of classroom discussion and 4 hours of hands-on climbing and performing rescue procedures. The course is completed at a tower site where participants will discuss job hazard analysis, climbing, and using the PPE provided by their company. We will observe 3 points of contact and 100% tie-off climbing utilizing the cable grab, energy-absorbing lanyards, rope grab system and SRL if applicable. We will discuss work positioning lanyards and transition from the tower into a rescue system, simulating work on a tower and basic rescue awareness. A written exam is part of the course and requires a minimum score of 80% to pass.
Upon successful completion of the Authorized Climber course, a wallet card and certificate are issued. The Authorized Climber certification is valid for two years.
